Gates Foundation Collaborates With Pearson Foundation To Offer 24 Online Courses By 2015

Twenty-four new online courses will be offered to school students by 2015 through a partnership between Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Pearson Foundation. Speaking to reporters, officials from both Foundations assert that there will be 11 online courses in math for grades K-10 and 13 in English for the same target group.

Four of these online courses will be available free through the Gates Foundation. A grant of USD 3 million from the Gates Foundation will support the work of Pearson Foundation aimed at developing a range of teaching and learning aids for the common standards.

The online courses will serve as a 150-day curriculum and make use of technology that will better engage and motivate students, says Judy Codding, the former chief executive officer of America's Choice who is leading the curriculum effort at the Pearson Foundation.

Pearson, the for-profit company that operates for the nonprofit Pearson Foundation, will market the online courses, says Mark Nieker, the president of Pearson Foundation.
