The program uses donations from Florida corporations to give tuition assistance to families with low incomes who want to send their children to private schools. This means that more low-income families will be able to seriously consider private schooling for their children when they are checking up a schools guide.
In return for their donations, the corporations receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit of up to 75% of their state income tax liability. Students also receive a flat stipend of up to 80% of the state's per-pupil funding for public schools.
